Glass melting requires raw materials which are of two kinds: different types of sand and recycled glass. These raw materials are mixed together, charged in a furnace where there are melted at around 1500°c to form molten glass. The molten glass is then taken out of the furnace to be shaped and cooled down afterwards.
How Is Glass Manufactured?
Glass is one of the oldest materials known to man, having been used for centuries for a variety of purposes. It’s a versatile material that can be used to make windows, bottles, mirrors, and a variety of other objects. But how is glass manufactured?
Glass is made from a combination of sand, soda ash, limestone, and other ingredients. Sand is the primary ingredient, as it provides the silica needed to make glass. Soda ash is used to lower the melting point of the silica, while limestone is used to add strength and durability to the glass.
The ingredients are mixed together in large tanks and heated to temperatures of up to 2,400 degrees Fahrenheit. The mixture is then poured into molds and allowed to cool. The glass is then annealed, which is a process of cooling the glass slowly to reduce any stresses that may have developed during the heating process.
After annealing, the glass is inspected for quality. If any defects are found, the glass may be re-melted and re-formed. Once the glass has been approved, it is cut into the desired shape and size.
Finally, the glass is polished and finished. This can involve adding a variety of coatings, such
