How Long Ago Was the Great Wall of China Built?

The Great Wall of China is one of the most iconic and ancient structures in the world. It was built over two thousand years ago, beginning in the 7th century BC. The wall was constructed by Emperor Qin Shi Huang and his successors during the Qin Dynasty. It was meant to protect China from the Mongols and other invaders. The wall is made up of mortar and bricks, and is an estimated 8,850 km long—that’s the equivalent of the distance between London and Moscow!

The Great Wall of China took many years and many people to build. It was constructed mostly by hand, and the workers used materials like wood, stones, and earth to construct the wall. The wall was built in sections, with the first section being completed in 221 BC. The wall was built as a defense against foreign invasions, but also served to protect trade routes and the Silk Road.

The Great Wall of China has gone through many changes over the centuries. It has been damaged by both natural disasters like earthquakes and floods, and by the actions of man. Many of the original sections were destroyed during the Ming Dynasty, and were rebuilt during the Qing Dynasty. During this period, the wall was extended and strengthened, and more watchtowers
