How Long Has the Golden Gate Bridge Been Around?

The Golden Gate Bridge is one of the most iconic landmarks in the United States. Located in San Francisco, California, the bridge spans the Golden Gate strait, connecting the city to Marin County. Since its opening in 1937, the bridge has become a symbol of the city’s beauty and a popular tourist destination. But how long has the Golden Gate Bridge been around?

The Golden Gate Bridge was designed by renowned engineer Joseph Strauss in 1917. Construction began on January 5, 1933, and was completed on April 19, 1937. The bridge was opened to vehicular traffic on May 28, 1937 and was celebrated with a day of festivities, including a fireworks display and a parade. The bridge cost $37 million to build, and the funds were raised through a combination of bonds, federal and state grants and individual contributions.

Since its opening, the Golden Gate Bridge has become a symbol of San Francisco and one of the most recognizable landmarks in the world. It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1964, and in 1969 it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. The bridge has undergone several renovations over the years, including the addition of a tower to the south end of the bridge and the replacement of the original roadway with a stainless steel net
