How Much Calcium Chloride to Add to Concrete?

A guide, which should be confirmed, is that about 2 percent calcium chloride by weight of cement can be added for class c0 exposure and about 0.5 percent can be added for c1 exposure. Rarely can any calcium chloride be added to concrete that will be subjected to c2 exposure.

Calcium chloride is a salt that is commonly used to harden concrete. It is often added to concrete mixtures to increase the rate of hardening and to provide greater strength and durability.

When used in concrete, calcium chloride helps create a stronger and more durable product. However, there are some considerations to be made when determining how much calcium chloride to add to concrete.

The amount of calcium chloride to be added to concrete depends on a number of factors, such as the type of concrete being used, the temperature and humidity levels, and the desired results.

Generally, for a standard concrete mix, between 0.5 and 2.0 percent of the total weight of the cement should be added.

This means that for a 50pound bag of cement, between 0.25 and 1.0 pounds of calcium chloride should be added. For mixes that require a faster rate of set, higher concentrations of calcium chloride can be used.

Some mixes may require up to three percent calcium chloride, or between 1.5 and 4.5 pounds for a 50pound bag of cement.
