How to Lay a Brick Walkway?

Step 1: Prepare the Area

Start by preparing the area where you plan to lay the walkway. Remove any existing vegetation or debris. Level the area with a shovel and a rake and mark the edges of the walkway with stakes and mason’s string.

Step 2: Dig the Trench

Dig a trench for the walkway that is 3-4 inches deep and 6-8 inches wide. Use a level to make sure the bottom of the trench is even. If you plan to add a border around the walkway, dig a trench for the border as well.

Step 3: Add Gravel

Fill the bottom of the trench with at least two inches of gravel and tamp it down. This will help create a stable base for the bricks.
