What Is a Flowing Artesian Well?

Flowing artesian wells are water wells where the pressure in the aquifer (water bearing geologic formation) forces ground water above the ground surface so that the well will flow without a pump. Several methods are used to construct flowing wells and to control the discharge of water from the well.
