What Is Dry-Set Mortar?

According to the tcna, dry-set mortar is portland cement mixed with sand and additives that impart water-retentivity, and it’s used as a bond coat for setting tile. (water retentivity is the ability of the thinset to resist drying out rapidly when it comes in contact with porous tile.)
